Valkyrie Profile

The gameplay mainly consists of exploring various locations from a 2D perspective. Lenneth can run, jump, shoot ice crystals, push and pull objects to solve simple puzzles. All of the enemies are on-screen and can usually be avoided. The battle system is turn-based, with each character assigned to one of the four main keys. With the right timing, the player can execute combos that leave enemies defenseless.

The rest of the game consists of Lenneth using "spiritual concentration" to discover locations and fallen heroes, ingame-engine cutscenes providing history and reports about the war's progress. The game is divided into chapters, each with a preset number of periods. Each action uses a variable number of periods that varies with difficulty level. When all periods have passed, the chapter is over. The player must transfer heroes to Valhalla in each chapter, permanently losing them if not done on time.
