Thousand Land is a real-time strategy game where two opponents face off on abstract worlds called "geo-slates". The objective is to destroy the enemy's core using small acorn-shaped units called APOs that spawn from a tree-like object called core. The units are controlled indirectly, and each battle aims to outmaneuver the opponent.
Each match consists of two phases: building phase and battle phase. In the building phase, players can remodel their geo-slate by adjusting land levels and constructing objects like barriers, defensive weapons, and traps. However, construction energy and time are limited.
In the battle phase, APOs act on their own with varying abilities, such as moving to a specific point or being picked up and dropped elsewhere. Giant creatures called TELAs can also be summoned as powerful offensive units.
The player's geo-slate is carried over from one battle to the next, allowing them to build upon previous progress. Winning gives currency that can be used to acquire new parts for the geo-slate or more powerful TELAs. Players can also bet on the outcome of a match for additional money. With 1,000 opponents to battle against, organized into tiers named after chess pieces, the ultimate goal is to reach the king tier and defeat the highest-ranked opponent.
Thousand Land was released on March 20th,, 2003, for the Xbox console.
