Rosemary Reed visits Richard Felton's estate under false pretenses, seeking information about the disappearance of Celeste. The argument escalates, and she is forced to leave, but her curiosity gets the better of her, leading her to sneak back in to uncover the truth. Her investigation into the mysteries of the mansion will push her to the limits of sanity and survival.
Tormented Fathers is the first chapter of the Remothered story, a horror survival experience that puts you on edge from start to finish. You'll face challenges head-on with no chance to prepare or defeat your foes in battle. There are no boss battles, and while enemies change over time, their tactics remain consistent throughout. Rosemary can wield up to three objects or ropes and one defensive tool at a time. These items can be used to distract or stun enemies, allowing you to escape danger. Ropes can also be used to trap or release doors, while defensive tools like knives can be used to defend yourself when grabbed from behind.
While the main story is told through cut-scenes, exploring the environment and collecting hidden items will provide a deeper understanding of the world around Rosemary. The game features quick-time events during combat, which can prove fatal if you fail. The estate is dark and foreboding, making it essential to carry a flashlight to navigate its depths. However, this light also makes you more visible to the enemies hunting you. Hiding spots are available, but be aware that the enemy will detect your presence if they spot you entering one.
Gameplay is controlled using a shoulder camera by default, but you can switch between left and right sides to get a better view of your surroundings. The camera is not locked to Rosemary's back as she moves, requiring separate control. The auto-save feature is only used at specific points in the story, while saving progress requires standing in front of a mirror with the pendulum clock. There are limited save points throughout the estate.
Completing the game unlocks exclusive content, including character and setting artwork from behind-the-scenes development.
