Pitball is a futuristic sports game. The gameplay is a cross between Rollerball and Basketball. Players 'fight' within an enclosed arena, over control of a floating orb, which they then pick up and throw into the opponents goal.
The objective is to score points by throwing the orb into the opponent's goal while avoiding getting hit or tagged out. Various power-ups are dropped into the arena during play, that offer advantages to the player, such as extra speed, more accurate shooting, more power and various bombs and landmines that can be used against the opponent.
Players can also collect special orbs, which can be built up and then used to execute a 'special moves'. This adds a new layer of strategy to the game. The management portion of the game allows players to manage their team, making trades, buying upgrades, and even bribing opponents to gain an advantage.
Multiplayer options are also available, supporting up to 4 players with compatibility for the Multi-Tap peripheral on Pitball (PlayStation). The game's competitive nature and varied gameplay make it a unique and engaging experience.
Pitball was released in 1996.
