Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension is more than just a video game based on the Disney Channel Original movie. The game's storyline fills in some gaps from the film's "Brand New Reality" montage sequence, where Phineas, Ferb, Candace, Agent P, and Dr. Doofenshmirtz jump into different dimensions while being pursued by evil Normbots. The various dimensions contain references to certain episodes of the TV show that were not featured in the movie.
The game plays like a typical platformer with numerous puzzles, mini-games, and boss battles. Players can co-op play with another player or work with a computer-controlled partner. There are countless items to collect, special characters to unlock, costumes/skins for the playable characters, and customizable weapons with different colors and sound effects.
Unlocking more than two main characters allows players to switch between them during levels if desired. Achievements/trophies can be won, and an increased difficulty mode becomes available after achieving the final trophy. Background props change depending on the time of year, such as jack-o-lanterns around Halloween or snowmen and Christmas lights in December.
This game should not be confused with the DS game that shares the same title but has a different plot line, gameplay mechanics, and level design compared to the PlayStation 3 version.
