The Golden Compass , an adaptation of the 2007 movie and based on Philip Pullman's novel Northern Lights and His Dark Materials trilogy, follows Lyra Belacqua as she embarks on a perilous journey.
Lyra's best friend Roger is kidnapped by evil Gobblers, and her uncle Lord Asriel is imprisoned for discovering evidence of Dust particles. With her soul's dæmon, Pan, by her side, Lyra must leave the safety of Jordan College in Oxford to right the situation.
The game features 3rd-person action gameplay, where Lyra navigates environments using acrobatic actions and wit to evade enemies. She can collect four items to escape tricky situations, with health represented as "courage". She also plays Deception mini-games to outwit characters and gain additional courage.
Lyra is aided in her quest by two other characters: Pan, whose forms are gradually discovered during the journey, and Iorek Byrnison, an armoured bear known as panserbjørne . Pan provides Lyra with abilities such as flying and turning invisible, while Iorek offers brute strength and a special attack.
Lyra's journal stores information, tasks, and the golden compass, which reveals answers to questions when operated by a trained user. The game features Divining sessions, where Lyra matches symbols to solve puzzles, and conversations with mini-games that keep talking going.
Each character can pick up objects that grant new abilities, such as new forms or spells. As Lyra progresses through the game, she must use her skills and allies to overcome challenges and uncover the secrets of The Golden Compass .
