Lego Marvel Super Heroes is an action game that reunites about 150 Marvel heroes and villains from several franchises, allowing the player to control the good ones to save the Earth from a team of villains headed by Galactus. The game features a blocky cartoonish visual style and gameplay, similar to other LEGO adventures.
The game world consists of an explorable open-world Manhattan and a series of self-standing story mode levels located beyond Earth, in the worlds of Asgard, Bifrost, and Asteroid M. Marvel-related buildings in New York can be entered, with each one having its own storyline narrated by Deadpool.
The game's playable characters start with Iron Man and Hulk, soon joined by Spider-Man. Other characters are unlocked as the player progresses through the game, either by advancing or collecting Gold Bricks found throughout Manhattan. Additional characters, outfits, and vehicles can be obtained by completing side quests, story mode levels, and collecting Character tokens and Vehicle tokens in Manhattan.
There are also collectibles such as Minikits and Deadpool bricks, which provide power-ups and extra features. Some characters can only be purchased through DLC packs, including the Super Pack and Asgard Pack, available on Xbox LIVE, PS Store, and PC. With over 100 playable characters, each with their own Super Powers and Super Moves, the game offers a wide range of possibilities for interaction with the environment and enemy combat.
The game features voice-acted dialogues from a cast of 27 people. The Wii U version is playable without a TV using the GamePad's off-TV play feature, while in two-player mode, players can use either the display or the GamePad, avoiding split-screen issues.
