Double Dragon , released in 1988 for the Sega Master System, is set in a post-apocalyptic New York where twin brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee must rescue their kidnapped girlfriend Marian from the "Black Warriors", a savage street gang. The Lee brothers use their martial arts skills to track down the gang and ultimately face off against their leader, Willy.
The gameplay follows the Lee brothers' pursuit through the city's slums and industrial areas, with players controlling both Billy and Jimmy as they fight using various punches, kicks, and elbow strikes. The game also features a variety of weapons that can be used to attack enemies, including hammers, nunchucks, and bo staffs.
Double Dragon 's VS. mode allows for one or two players to engage in a fighting match with six different characters, including Billy and five enemy fighters. Players must punch, kick, jumpkick, and use weapons to reduce their opponent's health bar until it is fully drained. The game requires strategy and timing to emerge victorious.
