Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars , released on 2007-05-11 , is a strategy game set in an alternate future where a meteor has fallen on Earth, spreading a powerful and highly dangerous substance called Tiberium. The Tiberium infestation has caused ecological catastrophe, rendering 20% of the planet's surface uninhabitable as Red Zones, while another 50% are Yellow Zones filled with civil unrest. The remaining 20% are Blue Zones, safe from Tiberium infestation and humanity's only salvation.
The game follows the story of the Brotherhood of Nod, a terrorist organization that seeks to launch a serious assault against the Global Defense Initiative (GDI), which defends the Blue Zones. Players can choose to play as either side, with access to a wide range of infantry, vehicles, and aircraft, as well as structures to aid in building and upgrading their forces.
Gameplay is fast-paced, allowing players to build up their bases and produce powerful fighting forces to destroy their enemies. The game features a tabbed sidebar for building and deploying structures quickly and easily, with various buildings scattered across maps that can be garrisoned or captured for additional protection or an advantage.
In campaign mode, players can fight the war for one of the three sides, playing out the storyline through missions with high-definition FMVs and popular actors giving orders. The game also features skirmish against AI and multiplayer modes, including rankings, clans, VoIP, and a new feature called BattleCast that enables players to watch or download replays from battles.
The Xbox 360 version of Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars has an altered interface for the console's controls, with context-sensitive menus and custom shortcuts available for advanced players. The game also supports the Xbox Live Vision camera.
