Sniper: Ghost Warrior is set on Isla Trueno, Colombia, a small island with beautiful beaches and jungles, but also home to an ultra-rare form of uranium that allows its dictator General Manuel Vasquez to acquire military hardware. Vasquez overthrew the US-backed government and cleansed the island of opposition, and now a special ops team arrives to kill him.
The game follows Gunnery Sergeant Tyler Wells, a MOS 0317 (Scout Sniper), as he navigates through 16 missions, using one of four different sniper models to carefully line up shots from a distance. The player also has access to a silenced pistol and throwing knives for closer encounters.
Getting the kill-shot at such a range is an easy task, especially considering that the AI can hear and find the origin of a shot quickly. So one shot, one kill or the whole camp is alerted to the player's presence. The game is all about realism, taking into account factors like distance, wind direction, and the player's pulse when using the sniper.
The game features not only sniper stealth missions but also scenarios where the player must run guns blazing with other team members, such as the spotter. They can pick up equipment like M16 or AK-47 and use destructive perks to take out enemies.
In single-player, the game uses a mixture of medipacks and automatic healing. In multiplayer, up to eight players can play on six large maps in three game modes: Deathmatch, Team-Deathmatch, and VIP. The latter is a 'King of the Hill' variant where killing the VIP earns more points.
