Split/Second is a TV show about fast-paced action, where drivers compete in high-stakes racing events. The player takes on the role of one of eight drivers and aims to become the next champion. This arcade-focused racing game features custom-designed sport cars inspired by real-world vehicles.
The game's unique twist lies in its power play bar system. By performing specific driving maneuvers, such as drifting or drafting, players can fill up the bar and activate powerful events that aid them in their quest for victory. These events range from deploying helicopters to drop explosive barrels to rigging parked cars to explode.
The game's variety of power plays is matched by its diverse range of modes. Players can participate in normal racing events, destruction challenges where they must reach the finish line quickly while power plays are triggered automatically, and time trials where all power plays are activated at once. Other modes include Air Strike, where players must dodge missiles fired from a helicopter, and Elimination, where the last driver is eliminated after set time intervals.
As players progress through the campaign, they earn credits that unlock access to elite races, new cars, and special decals earned by achieving impressive victories. Each episode features a bonus event that can be unlocked by wrecking a specific number of cars in previous events.
The game also offers split-screen mode for two-player competition and online multiplayer for up to eight players, with three distinct game modes available.
