Tenkaichi Bushi: Keru Naguuru is a one-on-one martial arts fighting game set in ancient China. The player takes control of a single fighter as he attempts to defeat his opponent in single-round fights, using 2D side-scrolling graphics with a distinct cartoony design.
The gameplay involves controlling the fight with a single attack button and directional arrows to unleash various moves, which differ among each of the 15 fighters. Players can choose their fighter and compete against others to become the grandmaster.
Alongside the single-round fights, the game includes a story mode where players take control of a martial artist and explore the countryside looking for challengers, using a top-down map view.
In this mode, starting abilities and health are minimal, but defeating opponents increases the player's health and allows them to learn new moves, eventually becoming an ultimate combatant.
