The big city of Collosatropolis has reached the limits of its expansion. The Collostropolan leaders have decided to solve the problem by invading the neighboring country of Mungola. Since Mungolans are simple, earthy types they don’t expect much of a struggle. Mungola’s defense force consists only of a single squadron of fighter planes – the Platypus . The enemy is led by the enigmatic Captain Krog, who will stop at nothing to defend his nation.
Platypus is a side-scrolling shooter where you use your little spacecraft to blast the enemy ships. Shooting formations gives the player weapon upgrades for twenty seconds. With 20 levels in four different worlds, each with their own themes and enemies, the game offers a challenging experience. The graphics are detailed, with all models designed in clay and then digitally coloured.
The PSP version of Platypus includes minor changes. It adds new worlds, ships, and enemies not found in the original game, created from existing graphics with new movement patterns. The game also features a save system, a new Survival mode, and Wi-Fi multiplayer action for 2 players.
Platypus was released on November 17th, 2006 for the PSP.
