The handheld and PlayStation 2 version of Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest follows the story of Aragorn during the War of the Ring as narrated by Frodo's friend, Samwise Gamgee. The game tells the story of Aragorn's adventures to entertain his children who want to know about the one known as Strider.

In game, you play as Aragorn and fight orcs, trolls, and other enemies using both his sword and his bow. You can block, use quick or strong sword attacks, shoot arrows, charge his bow for more powerful attacks, and use special moves that become available as you progress through the game. Defeating foes replenishes some health, gives experience points, and boosts morale. However, using some special moves depletes Aragorn's morale. As you gain experience, you level up, improving Aragorn 's stats and earning points to learn new special moves. You can also equip equipment such as swords and belts to increase your prowesses.

This version does not have cooperative play, but has an Arena mode where you can challenge others.
