Aerostar is a vertically-scrolling shooter where you control an aircraft that can only stay on or fly over a preset road. The twist is that ascending comes with a cost: your weapons will be disabled before descending back onto another road or the one you started on.

The gameplay involves avoiding enemy fire while using power-up pods to gain access to missiles, lasers, and guardian pods. Each level ends with an extremely tough boss fight. There's no narrative to speak of, leaving players to focus solely on the action at hand.
