You play as a young teenager named Jude Maverick, who lives in a village that floats high above the ground. When his world is shattered, he descends onto the earth and faces the reality of a devastated Filgaia. The world was ravaged by wars, leaving behind only a few settlements amidst rusty tanks. A democratically elected government has plans to improve the conditions, but Jude soon realizes he must find a better plan to save a young girl and the world from destruction.

The fourth installment of the Wild Arms 4 series takes a different approach, moving away from its traditional Wild West theme. The gameplay system introduces hex-based battles, where you navigate your characters on the battlefield, trying to force enemies into an uncomfortable position. You can also learn and apply various skills to gain benefits in battles. As in previous games, dungeons contain environmental puzzles to solve.
