Midnight Raiders , released for the Sega CD in 1994, is an action-packed FMV rail shooter that follows the story of rookie chopper gunner "Joker" as he infiltrates a Middle Eastern oil refinery to rescue a kidnapped German biochemist. The terrorists have him working on a lethal toxin, and Joker must navigate through enemy tanks and helicopters to reach the refinery.
Throughout the game, the helicopter sections follow a familiar pattern, with brief clips of the cast in the cockpit followed by a "nose camera" shot of an enemy approaching. Players can then move crosshairs over the enemy and press the "fire" button to score hits. The on-foot sections also use this same mechanic, with hand-held cameras placing the player in Joker's eyes as he takes out black-clad guards.
The game's plot is expanded through occasional cutscenes in both the helicopter and foot sections, adding depth to the story without disrupting the fast-paced action. With its unique blend of rail shooting and on-foot combat, Midnight Raiders offers an exciting experience for fans of action-adventure games.
