Jin and Akira have been tasked with sealing a rip in time that's tearing the demon world, Valhalla, apart.
To do this, they must use their own demons to fight and defeat the creatures that have been let loose, and repair the rift before time itself is destroyed. As DemiKids: Light Version , the player takes on the role of Jin as he travels the land in search of demons to fight and collect.
There are 350 creatures in total to recruit, and the only way to collect all of them is by trading with DemiKids Dark Version.

Extracted from the original game manual
Set in a reimagined version of Tokyo during the year 200X, this action-adventure game follows childhood friends Jin, Akira, and Rena who are transformed into Devil Children after discovering a mysterious Compendium. The trio must navigate through magical realms like Valhalla and the Tower of Time to unravel a temporal distortion caused by the relentless arrival of devils. Players guide the protagonists through these hazardous locations to restore the flow of time and prevent the world from falling into ruin.
Story
Beginning of the Story
In the year 200X, Jin, Akira, and Rena are a childhood friend trio attending 6th-grade at Tokyo Harajuku Elementary School who love discovering strange things. One day, the three discover a "Compendium" with a mysterious transfer student named Ami. When they recite the summoning incantation written there, devils appear from a magic circle.
Ami, acting as if she had known everything, tells Jin and Akira: “You have become the Devil Children who will decide the fate of the world……” Devils relentlessly attack them one after another, prompting a mysterious white glowing body to appear at the school's entrance. Every time they touch it, Jin and the others find themselves repeating the same time over and over. This white body is the “Time Distortion” (Yugami) that seals away time and space.
Ami warns, “Because of this distortion of time, the world will come to a ruinous end……” To search for a way to erase the Time Distortion, Jin and his friends pass through their respective gates and set out on a journey.

Getting Started
Thank you for purchasing 'Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Children: Book of Light'. Please read this Instruction Manual carefully to understand who should play and precautions during use. Keep the manual in a safe place.
WARNING
•
Use while tired or continuous use for long periods is not good for health; please avoid it.
•
Very rarely, people have experienced temporary muscle spasms or loss of consciousness when exposed to strong light stimuli or flickering. If you have experienced such symptoms, consult a doctor before playing.

If symptoms occur while playing, stop immediately and seek a doctor's examination.
•
If you feel dizziness, nausea, fatigue, or motion sickness, stop the game immediately. Continueing may lead to long-term damage.
•
If you feel fatigue, discomfort, or pain in your hands or arms, stop immediately. Continuing may lead to long-term damage.
•
If you have a disability in your hand or arm, or are tired, playing may worsen symptoms. Consult a doctor before playing.
•
If you notice eye fatigue, dryness, or abnormalities, pause the game and take a 5-10 minute break.
Game Objective & Features
Overcome various trials and begin your adventure. The devils blocking your path are powerful; you cannot defeat them with your partner alone. Call forth befriended devils and proceed by defeating enemies. When you have visited all lands, the secret will be revealed.
Increase your allies, strengthen them through fusion, and overcome battles with the strongest party. Negotiate with devils during battle to turn them into allies. You can call forth allies to fight alongside you. Create powerful allies through fusion, as they are not strong on their own.
You can battle and exchange via a communication cable (sold separately).
Devil Encyclopedia
Complete the Devil Encyclopedia 【Devidas】 to view information on devils you have encountered. Devils you have made into partners or fought in battle will be registered. Press Start to bring up the menu and view information via "VineCon."
Advice from Ami
If you just play normally, you won't complete the Devidas! Increasing variety through Fusion is key, but trading with friends is the real point. Some devils only appear in the "Book of Shadows," and others can only be created through Trade Fusion. Collect all 360+ devils through trading and trade fusion. Check page 46 for trading details.
Game Setup
Set the cartridge correctly and turn the power ON. Press Start or the A button on the title screen to begin. Move the protagonist right away and progress the story. Advance dialogue with the A button.

Select [From the beginning] to restart.
•
Select [Continue] to start from your last save. This option only appears when save data is present.
•
See page 45 for saving information.
Character Naming
Select characters with the cursor and press the A button to confirm. Finish with [Confirm] when done. You can erase the character under the cursor with the B button. Enter it without mistakes.
•
You can enter up to a maximum of 8 characters.
•
You can use the name as is without changing it.
•
The character set switches with the L button / R button.
Settings
Before starting your adventure, press Start to open the menu and select "Settings." Use the up/down buttons on the D-pad to select items and left/right to change settings. Press B to end setup.
•
Message: Change the speed of the messages.
•
Animation: Change setting to watch (On) or not watch (Off) battle animations.
•
Battle Position: Change the position of your companions (Evys) during battle. Select [Battle Position] and press A to open the cursor. Use left/right buttons to switch positions. See page 19 for details.
Movement & Exploration
The protagonist moves in the direction you press the cross buttons.
Riding a Partner
Press the R button to ride on your partner's back. This allows you to move faster, jump up cliffs, and leap to distant places. Press R again to get off.

Book of Light Partner (Land): Good at jumping vertically.
•
Book of Darkness Partner (Gail): Good at jumping horizontally.
The things you can do while riding differ between books, so be careful about where you can go.
World Map
Press the Select button to view the world map of the current world. Use the left/right buttons to move the cursor. The name of the selected location and encountered devils will be displayed.
•
Maps vary by world. If you do not have the map for that world, it will not be displayed.
Dialogue
Try talking to your partner using the B button on the field. Your partner will talk to the protagonist and may tell you what to do or give hints about mysteries. Talk to them proactively!
Battles
Battles may start suddenly if you are attacked by devils. Don't panic; fight calmly. See page 18 for details.
Exploration Tips
Walking around is not enough. Try talking to various people and examining locations for hints.
•
[Talk]: Press A in front of a person to hear information. Try talking to the same person multiple times.
•
[Examine]: Press A in front of a place to find items or macca.
•
[Tip]: If something catches your interest, approach it and press A.
Before the Battle
When you encounter an enemy devil, the screen switches to the battle screen. A message is displayed first. Once finished
Tips & Maps
Cool
You can choose to cool down another Summon to swap them, using registered skills like Devilizer or Kingizer. This command cannot be selected if you cannot cool down the Summon.
Auto
This feature allows you to automatically repeat a single command, such as attacking in a continuous barrage, to gain Maccas and experience points.
Attack
Repeats the Attack command.
Repeat
Repeats the previous command. If selected first, it executes the command used in the previous turn.
Cancel
Use the B button to cancel Auto or dangerous situations when your Summon's HP gets low, allowing you to re-plan your strategy.
Level Up
Ensure you raise the protagonist's level in battles so you can call out high-level ally Demons from Vincenta.
Negotiate
Select an ally and an opponent Devil to negotiate a contract, which may result in them joining your party or restoring HP. You can attach a nickname to Devils you contract with.
Negotiation Tips
Negotiation is more successful if the two Devils have the same attribute or belong to the same class.
Combo
Perform a powerful MP-consuming combo attack by selecting specific sets of Evidents. You cannot use this if either Devil lacks sufficient MP.
Devitas
Use Devitas to search for Evident combinations that can perform combos by checking stats and switching display content with the D-pad.
Flee
Running away from battle is a valid strategy to avoid unnecessary damage, though you may still take one-sided attacks if you cannot escape completely.
Status
View the detailed status, such as attack power, defense, and usable magic, of your registered allies on the Devilizer or Kinglizer to plan your battles effectively.
Bad Statuses
Enemies can afflict you with bad statuses during battle, which do not automatically recover except when the battle ends or the character Faints. You must use magic or items to cure them during combat.
Fusion Part 2: Fusion of Two Demons
A demon different from the two demons being fused will be born. The demon after fusion can choose to inherit up to three of the spells that the demons possessed before the fusion.
Fusion Part 3: Fusion Accident
When fusing two demons with the Book of the Light, a fusion accident may occasionally occur, resulting in a demon completely different from the expected result, including rare demons. This differs from the Book of Darkness, which allows Pure Blood Fusion for rank-up but does not produce fusion accidents.
Maw Fusion
Fusing a Maw item with a familiar teaches it new techniques. If no more spells or techniques can be learned, an old one will be removed. You cannot learn a technique with an attribute opposite to the familiar's.

Jin
The protagonist of the 'Book of Light.' A very active and energetic 6th grade boy who acts with great passion about things that interest him.
Land (Turleo)
Jin's partner. He always thinks things will work out with a relaxed attitude. He's not just a frivolous rascal; there is also an aspect where he tries to faithfully follow Jin's orders.
Lena
A girl of action who moves her body before she even thinks.
Ami
A mysterious transfer student. She is quiet, but has a stubborn side to her.
Akira
The protagonist of the 'Dark Book.' He is lively, but has a settled feel to him that makes one feel a certain air of gloom.
Gale (Heron)
Akira's partner. He is very brave and faces any enemy head-on. However, sometimes this turns into reckless action.
