Super Nazo Puyo is a spin-off of the real-time puzzle series Puyo Puyo with a twist. Whereas the main Puyo Puyo games are aimed at defeating AI or human controlled opponents in puzzle duels, Nazo Puyo instead challenges the player with different single-player scenarios in which a specific objective must be completed.
The game uses the mold of a top-down RPG in which you control either the young magician Arle or fighting queen Rulue as they explore towns and dungeons in their search for adventure. Each quest involves finding an NPC who will trigger one of these scenarios and rewards Arle (or Rulue) with experience points and unique items that increase her stats.
