The story of Open Season revolves around two main characters, Boog, a domesticated bear, and Elliot, a one-horned deer. Boog is trying to return to civilization after being released into the forest due to an unfortunate incident, while Elliot wants to be Boog's partner.

To achieve his goal, Boog must help the creatures of the forest get rid of hunters by solving simple puzzles. By gaining their respect, Boog can convince them to assist him in reaching his hometown. Through this journey, Boog gains achievement points that unlock new abilities.
