Rune Factory: Frontier's story begins with the hero Raguna traveling to the village of Trampoli in search of his missing friend Mist. However, once he finds her, she reveals that she has been hearing the calls of someone in her dreams. Raguna investigates for her and discovers that the mysterious whale-shaped island over the village not only can speak but is in danger of falling and destroying Trampoli. Now Raguna must solve the mysteries of Whale Island as well as explore Trampoli's dungeons to find a solution to the danger that plagues the village.
Rune Factory: Frontier was released on the Wii in 2009. The gameplay is similar to its Nintendo DS counterparts, with owning a farm, growing crops, befriending villagers, getting married, and fighting in dungeons. A new feature introduced in this game is the Runey system, a mini-ecosystem that must be managed to affect crop growth. This game features many familiar faces from the first game on the DS, including Mist, Rosetta, Melody, and Lara, as well as several new bachelorettes to choose from. The game also includes animated cutscenes for events and first meetings with the girls, although not all dialogue is voiced.
