Buffers Evolution is set in a post-apocalyptic future where a gambling syndicate has created three bestial androids from a bird, a lion, and a rhinoceros. The robots are released into hostile mazes of scrap metal, and the goal is to collect ten parts while navigating through courses filled with electricity.
The gameplay revolves around running through courses, collecting parts, and destroying enemies by turning into a 'buffer', a sharp metallic object that can bounce you in different directions. Special items can be accrued by collecting parts, which will heal any damage taken during the course. The game's objective is to achieve the best time possible while navigating through challenging environments.
The gameplay style of Buffers Evolution is reminiscent of classic platformers like Sonic the Hedghog, but with a unique twist of focusing on timing and efficiency rather than racing against a countdown.
Buffers Evolution was released for the WonderSwan console in 1999.
