The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus game is based on the 2003 television series and follows the events of season two. The story revolves around the turtles being surrounded by a strange light, which takes them to an alien planet. They rescue a robot who helps them get back home by building a teleporter, but they need special crystals to cover the vast distances. The game consists of five worlds with six levels each, and players must collect all 100 crystals in each world to unlock the next one.
The gameplay is divided into different types of levels. The majority are platformers with beat'em up elements, where players must collect their signature weapon before facing enemies. The turtles can climb poles, ledges, and pull themselves up shafts, and some levels end with boss fights. There are also three kinds of shooting levels: hoverboard levels, which involve fighting enemies while on a moving board; hovercraft levels, similar to traditional arcade shoot'em ups; and space levels, where players must fire lasers at enemy spacecraft, asteroids, and crystals.
The game features four playable characters with unique abilities, and some crystals can only be reached by specific turtles. Players can also play each level again with a different character to find more crystals. Besides the main story mode, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus includes two smaller modes: Race mode, where players compete on hoverboards; and Battle mode, where the goal is to collect crystals within a time limit while avoiding enemies.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus was released for the Game Boy Advance in October 2004.
