Army Men Sarge's War is a gritty new direction for the Army Men series. The story follows Sergeant Hawk, who must take on his most insidious enemy yet: Lord Malice. After years of conflict with the Tan army, the Green army has finally emerged victorious. However, on the eve of the peace ceremonies, a ruthless attack wipes out Sarge's entire squad.

The game is primarily a level-based, third-person shooter, where most weapons can also be used in a first-person view. The game includes some multiplayer options for two to four players on certain platforms.
