The story of Knightmare takes place in a medieval castle where a knight must rescue a princess from the clutches of an evil sorcerer. The game begins with the knight trapped in the castle, and the player must navigate through various obstacles to reach the princess and escape.
The gameplay is fast-paced action-adventure style, where the player controls the knight as he moves left and right across the screen, jumping over obstacles and fighting enemies. The goal is to collect magical items while avoiding deadly traps and ultimately rescue the princess from the castle gates.
