Battle Stations is a naval combat game for the Sega Saturn . The game features two-player gameplay, allowing friends to compete against each other in various modes. One player can choose between Arcade or Campaign mode when playing alone, while the 2-player game mode offers options such as Arcade or War Games mode.
The single-player Campaign mode consists of 50 missions with objectives like destroying enemy supply convoys or launching a full-scale assault on an opponent's homeland. The player selects their admiral for the battle, with five different admirals each having unique skills in warfare.
The Arcade mode allows one or two players to choose their ship and engage in a 1-on-1 ship battle. Players earn points for sinking their opponent's ships, which can lead to climbing the naval ranks from Ensign to Fleet Admiral.
The War Games mode enables two players to compete against each other in 26 different locations, offering three ways to play: war, capture the flag, or capture the harbor. Players can choose between playing as one of several countries or have a balanced or custom naval force, affecting the number of units of each ship type at the start of the battle.
The game includes eight types of ships with different ratings in categories like top speed, target range, hull strength, main guns, special weapons, and defensive weapons. Players navigate their ships strategically on an overhead map, trying to maneuver a target reticule to attack opponents while avoiding their attacks until one ship's health meter empties.
