Putty Squad , a remake of the 1994 SNES game, features modern graphics and sound, while maintaining its original design. The player controls Putty, a blue character, as he navigates through levels to free red characters taken prisoner by invading forces.
The gameplay is a side-scrolling platformer with a slower pace, focusing on exploration and puzzle elements. Putty has various abilities, such as stretching, jumping, and flattening himself, which can be upgraded throughout the game. He can also use different types of attacks, including electrical shocks and darts.
The gameplay is complemented by item absorption, which allows Putty to use items at a later date. These items are restored in a bar on the right side of the screen and can be selected as needed. Putty can launch rockets, throw bombs, activate a shield, or call in a pod for free movement.
The game has time limits for each level, which can be extended by freeing prisoners and collecting clock items. A map mode allows players to view the entire level at any moment. Levels are selected from a global map screen, where they are unlocked gradually. The game also features a tutorial, marathon mode, challenge mode with medals, and a sticker book to unlock additional levels.
For the PS Vita version, preordering the game included all levels from the original Putty , the 1994 SNES game.
