In the Wizardry series, including the Story of Llylgamyn compilation and Wizardry V, Elves are a selectable character race with high intelligence and piety, making them well-suited for magic-using classes. In EverQuest Online Adventures, the Elven race is split into distinct playable sub-races like High Elves and Wood Elves, each with unique starting attributes and class options. They serve as a foundational fantasy archetype adapted across these classic role-playing franchises.

During the development of Wizardry I-II-III: Story of Llylgamyn, developers preserved the classic computer-based stat allocations for Elves, translating their traditional alignment restrictions to the console interface. This preservation ensured that players importing characters or creating new parties had to balance the Elven affinity for alignment-sensitive classes like Lords or Bishops. By the release of Wizardry V: Heart of the Maelstrom, the race benefited from expanded equipment options and revised magic systems, allowing them to adapt to the game's larger, more complex dungeon floors.

In EverQuest Online Adventures, the transition of Elves to a fully three-dimensional console MMORPG on the PlayStation 2 introduced spatial and geographical significance to the race. Players navigating the continent of Tunaria experienced distinct starting zones and faction alignments tied to Elven lore, which dictated early quest lines and interactions with hostile factions.
