About

In Ultima VI: The False Prophet, Gargoyles are featured as a major, misunderstood sentient race central to the game's conflict. The name also represents a heavy Clan OmniMech in MechWarrior 2, while serving as a standard flying enemy or monster in titles like Castlevania: Dracula X, Brandish, and Nosferatu.

In Ultima The False Prophet, these beings possess a complex societal structure divided into winged intellectuals and wingless laborers, communicating through a unique syntax known as Gargl. Their conflict with Britannia arises from a cosmic misunderstanding over the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom.

Within tactical simulation, the MechWarrior 2 depiction of the vehicle—designated by the Inner Sphere as the "Man o' War"—showcases an 80-ton assault platform that sacrifices pod space for exceptional speed, utilizing a massive 400 XL engine to outmaneuver lighter opponents.

In role-playing and action titles, the creature's behavior varies. Torneko The Last Hope utilizes them as formidable shopkeepers who relentlessly hunt players who attempt to steal items from dungeon merchants. In the first-person crawler Towers Lord Baniff's Deceit, they serve as high-level environmental hazards. For action-platformers like Castlevania Dracula X, Brandish, and Nosferatu, these adversaries utilize stone-camouflage mechanics, remaining inert on ledges until players approach, whereupon they break free to execute swooping aerial strikes. In Alter Echo, they appear as specialized bio-metal constructs encountered within the game's shifting alien environments.
