About

Sailor Moon is the central playable character in the 1993 beat 'em up Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon and its sequel Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R. She also appears in spin-offs and fan-made titles, including Sailor Moon Welcome Nakayoshi Park and various homebrew fighting games. Throughout these titles, she utilizes her signature magical attacks to defeat enemies and protect the Earth.
The character's presence in video games expanded rapidly during the early 1990s, serving as the cornerstone for the Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon and Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S interactive franchises. Her initial digital depiction in the 1992 release Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon established her visual style and movement mechanics, which were subsequently refined in the 1993 Super Famicom and arcade releases.
Beyond official releases, the character inspired a dedicated emulation and fan-development community. This resulted in early homebrew adaptations, including Sailor Moon R [Homebrew] (1990) and the fighting game Sailor Moon Fighter S [Homebrew] (1990). The role-playing genre also adapted her narrative through [Homebrew] Sailor Moon Another Story (1990) and Sailor Moon Another Story [Homebrew] (1990), which translated her magical abilities into turn-based combat statistics. In contrast, Sailor Moon Welcome Nakayoshi Park (1994) placed her in a non-combat, minigame-driven environment designed for younger audiences. Across these diverse genres, her character design remained a crucial anchor for the franchise's early gaming legacy.
