Abel Software is a Japanese game developer recognized for creating the visual novel Exodus Guilty (1998) and its updated release Exodus Guilty Neos (2001). The company has also contributed to various other projects, including Sanyo Pachinko Paradise (1999), R-Type Dimensions EX (2019), and Hammerin' Harry 2: Dan The Red Strikes Back (2024).
Founded by industry veteran Zenji Nishikawa, the studio initially focused on narrative-driven adventure titles.
Exodus Guilty [Limited Edition] showcased the studio's early ambition, blending three distinct storylines set in the past, present, and future. This multi-era narrative structure was later refined and expanded for the PlayStation 2 release of
Exodus Guilty Neos.
Beyond original intellectual properties, the developer transitioned into contract work and collaborative projects. This shift included early simulation titles like
Sanyo Pachinko Paradise, which recreated popular Japanese parlor machines for home consoles. In later years, the studio became a key partner in preserving and reviving classic arcade properties. They collaborated with Tozai Games to bring the enhanced shoot-'em-up compilation
R-Type Dimensions EX to modern platforms, introducing high-definition 3D graphics and quality-of-life features to the iconic franchise. This relationship with classic retro properties continued with their development work on
Hammerin' Harry 2: Dan The Red Strikes Back, maintaining the legacy of Irem's beloved side-scrolling action series for contemporary audiences.
