Black Forest Games is a German developer founded in 2012 by former Spellbound Entertainment key staff. The studio is known for developing Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Giana Sisters Dream Runners, Rogue Stormers, and Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back. They are also highly recognized for their work modernizing classic intellectual properties, including the Destroy All Humans! franchise.
The studio's lineage traces back to the legacy of Spellbound Entertainment, whose early portfolio included the adventure game
Mushi Taro (2000). Building upon this heritage, the team focused on reviving dormant platforming and action intellectual properties. They expanded their signature platformer with
Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams Director's Cut (2015) for eighth-generation consoles, followed by a Nintendo Switch release in 2016. This was complemented by the competitive multiplayer spin-off
Giana Sisters Dream Runners (2015).
The developer also diversified into side-scrolling run-and-gun gameplay with
Rogue Stormers (2017), which combined rogue-lite elements with cooperative multiplayer. That same year, they revived another classic platforming mascot with
Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back (2017) and its enhanced
Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back Purrfect Edition (2017). These projects established the technical foundation for their subsequent high-profile remakes within the
Destroy All Humans! franchise, where they transitioned the classic alien-invasion gameplay into the modern era with updated physics, rebuilt assets, and refined control schemes.
