GSC Game World is a Ukrainian game development studio founded in Kiev in 1995. The company is the creator and developer of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. survival horror series, including the long-awaited sequel S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Despite significant real-world disruptions, the studio successfully developed and released the sequel in 2024 across various physical and digital editions.
Prior to focusing on the post-apocalyptic Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, the studio gained international recognition with the historical real-time strategy series Cossacks: European Wars. This success funded the ambitious development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007), which combined first-person shooter elements with survival horror and immersive sim mechanics. The franchise expanded with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky (2008) and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (2009), establishing a dedicated global fanbase.
After a prolonged hiatus, the developer reconstituted to create the highly anticipated sequel,
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart Of Chornobyl. To accommodate collector demand and community support, the 2024 release was distributed through several physical and digital tiers. These included the
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart Of Chornobyl [Limited Edition], which featured physical memorabilia like steelbooks and maps, the

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart Of Chornobyl [Ultimate Edition], which bundled exclusive digital content and physical statues. Moving away from their proprietary X-Ray Engine, the developer utilized Unreal Engine 5 to render the seamless, photorealistic open world of the Zone for these modern releases.
