About

Guerrilla Games is the developer of the action role-playing game Horizon Forbidden West (2022) and its various special editions. The game is a direct sequel to their 2017 title Horizon Zero Dawn, further establishing the studio's signature post-apocalyptic franchise. As a first-party studio for PlayStation Studios, they developed these titles to showcase Sony's console hardware.
Founded in 2000 in Amsterdam as Lost Boys Games, the studio was acquired by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2005 following the success of their science-fiction first-person shooter series, Killzone. This franchise served as the studio's primary focus for over a decade, spanning multiple console generations and establishing their technical expertise in proprietary engine development.
This technical foundation culminated in the creation of the Decima engine, which powers the visually complex landscapes of Horizon Forbidden West. To accommodate diverse player preferences, the studio released the game in multiple formats, including the Horizon Forbidden West [Launch Edition], Horizon Forbidden West [Special Edition], Horizon Forbidden West [Collectors Edition], and the premium Horizon Forbidden West [Regalla Edition]. These releases featured physical collectibles, art books, and digital content that deepened player immersion in the post-apocalyptic world. In 2023, the studio expanded the game's reach with the release of Horizon Forbidden West on PC, alongside the story expansion Burning Shores. Under the leadership of co-founders like Hermen Hulst, who later transitioned to lead PlayStation Studios, the developer has solidified its reputation for creating expansive, technologically pioneering open-world experiences.
