Kojima Productions is the developer behind the Death Stranding franchise, which began with their debut independent title in 2019. The studio is currently developing the franchise's upcoming sequel, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, scheduled for release in 2025. Founded by acclaimed game designer Hideo Kojima in 2015 following his departure from Konami, the studio established its independence by partnering with Sony Interactive Entertainment. To realize the vast, photorealistic world of the Death Stranding franchise, the developer collaborated with Guerrilla Games, utilizing their proprietary Decima engine. This technological foundation allowed the studio to pioneer the "strand game" genre, blending action, traversal mechanics, and asynchronous multiplayer elements.

The franchise is characterized by its star-studded casts, featuring performances by Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Léa Seydoux, captured through advanced motion-capture technology.
