Monochrome Corp is the development studio behind the tactical RPG Grand Kingdom, which was released in Japan in 2015 and internationally in 2016. Founded by Tomohiko Deguchi, the studio designed the game as a spiritual successor to Grand Knights History, featuring a distinct hand-drawn art style and online multiplayer mercenary warfare. The game was published across various editions, including the Grand Edition, Launch Edition, and Limited Edition.
Development of
Grand Kingdom focused on blending turn-based strategy with real-time action elements across a distinct three-lane battlefield. Players customize squads from seventeen character classes, including melee, ranged, magic, and specialist units, to navigate board-game-like maps. The narrative campaign centers on the mercenary leader Julius and the Guild, guiding players through the political intrigue of the Resonail continent.
To support the game's global rollout, NIS America distributed specialized physical packages. The
Grand Kingdom [Limited Edition] featured a grand-sized collector's box, a 128-page hardcover art book, and a parade soundtrack. The
Grand Kingdom [Launch Edition] served as a smaller-scale physical release containing a softcover art book and select soundtrack tracks, while the digital-focused
Grand Kingdom [Grand Edition] compiled the base game with all downloadable content packs. Although the competitive online war servers officially closed in 2022, terminating the cross-regional multiplayer battles, the offline campaign and local skirmish modes remain playable, preserving the studio's tactical design.
