Opera House was a Japanese game development studio that specialized in porting arcade titles to home consoles, such as Sega's Master System and Mega Drive. They developed the console versions of Taito's Rastan Saga II and Data East's Midnight Resistance, as well as original Master System games like Double Hawk and Running Battle. They also worked on the Mega Drive port of the strategy game Master of Monsters.
Active during the late 1980s and early 1990s, the developer collaborated closely with major publishers like Sega, Taito, and Data East to bring popular arcade experiences into the home. A key early project was the Master System adaptation of
Cloud Master (1989), a side-scrolling shooter originally released in arcades by Taito as
Chuka Taisen.
The studio's technical capability was further demonstrated in their 1991 adaptation of
Midnight Resistance. This port successfully translated the complex rotary-joystick controls of the arcade original to the standard three-button Mega Drive controller. For
Rastan Saga II (1990), they delivered faithful recreations of the fantasy hack-and-slash gameplay across multiple home platforms.
In addition to arcade conversions, the developer contributed to the Master System's library during its twilight years in Western markets. Both
Double Hawk (1990) and
Running Battle (1991) offered cooperative and solo military-themed action, sustaining the platform's viability in Europe and South America. Their work on the tactical simulation
Master of Monsters (1991) showcased versatility, adapting a complex personal computer strategy game into an accessible console format.
