SARL Olydri Studio is the production company behind the popular French web series Noob. They co-developed the turn-based role-playing game Noob: The Factionless (2023) alongside BlackPixel Studio, adapting their fictional MMORPG universe of Horizon into a playable video game.
Development of
Noob: The Factionless began following a highly successful crowdfunding campaign on the French platform Ulule, which secured over one million euros to expand the transmedia franchise. Published by Microids, the title represents the studio's major transition from video production into interactive media, translating the comedic tropes of the source material into classic turn-based RPG mechanics.
In
Noob: The Factionless, players control four novice players—Baster, Drek, May, and Logs—navigating the fictional MMORPG Horizon. The gameplay alternates between the virtual world of Olydri, where players engage in tactical turn-based combat, and real-world segments depicting the players behind the avatars. SARL Olydri Studio designed the game to mirror the progression systems, guild mechanics, and humor of the original web series, incorporating references and cameos for long-time fans. The project successfully bridged the gap between the franchise's cinematic universe and active player engagement, establishing a canonical interactive chapter in the overarching lore.
