System 3 is a long-running British video game developer and publisher. They created the Putty series, including Super Putty and Putty Squad, as well as the strategy game Constructor. The company also developed Gottlieb Pinball Classics for the Pinball Hall of Fame franchise and produced the 2007 remake of Impossible Mission.
During the early 1990s, the developer expanded its portfolio into diverse genres, releasing the licensed racing title
Ferrari Grand Prix Challenge (1992) for 8-bit and 16-bit consoles. This era also saw the birth of their signature mascot platforming intellectual property, beginning with
Putty Moon (1993) and
Super Putty (1993), which eventually led to the critically acclaimed
Putty Squad (1994). The studio transitioned into complex simulation and strategy with the release of
Constructor (1998), a dark-humored city builder that became one of their most enduring properties.
At the turn of the millennium, the company diversified into budget-range digital card games, publishing
Video Poker & Blackjack (2000). Their later output became heavily defined by preserving and reviving classic gaming properties. Within the
Pinball Hall of Fame franchise, they developed
Gottlieb Pinball Classics (2006), recreating historic electro-mechanical tables for modern handheld and home consoles. This preservationist approach continued with their involvement in the
Impossible Mission franchise, culminating in the 2007 updated port of
Impossible Mission (2007) for contemporary platforms, which updated the iconic 1984 cinematic platformer for a new generation of players.
