About

In the rail shooter Revolution X, the Skull Bomb is a collectible special weapon that clears the screen of enemies upon detonation. In the action-adventure platformer Tail Concerto, skull-marked bombs are explosive hazards deployed by the antagonist Black Cats Gang. Across both titles, the item is defined by its skull iconography and high destructive potential.
Midway Games introduced this explosive device to arcade audiences in 1994 before porting Revolution X to home consoles like the Super NES, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, and PlayStation between 1995 and 1996. Within this Aerosmith-themed dystopian setting, players stock up on these items alongside standard compact disc ammunition to survive overwhelming forces. The item's visual design aligns with the game's rebellious, heavy metal aesthetic, serving as a crucial resource during intense boss encounters.
In Tail Concerto, released for the PlayStation in 1998 in Japan and 1999 in North America, the weapon functions within the broader Little Tail Bronx series. Players controlling officer Waffle Ryebread must navigate these rolling hazards during chases. Rather than simply avoiding them, players can use the Robo Suit's bubble-capturing mechanics to grab and fling the active explosives back at boss vehicles, turning the threat into a tactical offensive tool. This mechanic established a gameplay loop of redirection that influenced subsequent spiritual successors developed by CyberConnect2.
