Originally established as Asmik Corporation, the company merged with Ace Pictures in 1998 to form Asmik Ace Entertainment. It published numerous titles for retro consoles like the Famicom, Sega Mega Drive, and PC Engine, often featuring its mascot Asmik-kun.
During the late 1980s, the publisher established a diverse software library by releasing titles across multiple genres. In 1988, the company released the mahjong title
Gambler Jiko Chuushinha. The following year marked a significant expansion in its catalog with the release of the action role-playing game
Super Hydlide and the sports simulation
World Super Tennis.
The company also targeted the shoot 'em up and action markets in 1989 with the 3D scrolling shooter
Cosmic Epsilon, the manga-based
Meimon Takonishi Ouendan, and a home port of the arcade hit
Shinobi. That same year, the platformer
Asmik-kun World debuted.
Beyond these early releases, the publisher continued to support various home consoles throughout the 1990s, transitioning into 3D gaming on fifth-generation systems. It eventually shifted its primary focus toward film production and distribution under the ownership of Japanese telecommunications giants, while maintaining its legacy as an early pioneer in console software publishing.
