Gearbox Publishing is the publishing arm of Gearbox Software, established to distribute both internal titles and partner games. During the late 2010s, the company handled the publishing of Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour, Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, and the physical retail distribution of Fortnite and Earthfall.
Initial operations focused heavily on leveraging established intellectual properties and securing strategic retail partnerships. For the release of
Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour in 2016, the publisher facilitated the return of the iconic first-person shooter franchise, incorporating a brand-new fifth episode developed by the game's original designers. That same year, the company collaborated with System Era Softworks to support the launch of the space-exploration sandbox game
Astroneer.
In 2017, the publisher collaborated with developer People Can Fly to launch
Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, a remastered version of the 2011 cult-classic shooter that featured updated textures and the integration of Duke Nukem as a playable campaign character. The company's retail distribution strategy proved highly significant during this period, notably partnering with Epic Games to bring physical copies of
Fortnite to global retail markets prior to the game's transition into a digital-first phenomenon. This physical distribution model was mirrored in 2018 with the retail release of Holospark's cooperative sci-fi shooter
Earthfall: Deluxe Edition, which bundled the base game with exclusive cosmetic content for console audiences.
