Microids is a French software brand and publisher that specializes in adventure games, racing games, and retro revivals. In addition to developing and publishing its own titles, the company frequently handles physical distribution for indie games and major releases in European territories.
Founded in 1985 by Elliot Grassiano, the company established its early reputation through the development of narrative-driven adventure titles, most notably the
Syberia series. Over the decades, the publisher expanded its operations by acquiring the catalog of Cryo Interactive and forming strategic partnerships to manage the retail presence of external properties.
Through these distribution agreements, the company managed the physical retail logistics for major international releases. This included handling the European physical distribution for the 2014 reboot of
Thief, as well as its specialized retail variants:
Thief [Steelbook] (2014),
Thief [Nordic Limited Edition] (2014), and
Thief [Limited Edition] (2014).
The publisher also collaborated with independent studios to transition digital-only titles into physical formats. Under this initiative, the company facilitated the boxed retail release of the action game
Furi (2017) and its premium physical counterpart,
Furi [Collector's Edition] (2018). These partnerships allowed the firm to maintain a consistent retail footprint while supporting diverse gaming genres.
