U.S. Gold Inc. published notable mid-90s titles including World Cup USA 94, Incredible Hulk, and the Game Gear port of Mega Man in 1995. The company was also responsible for publishing Olympic Soccer and Shellshock in 1996, shortly before being acquired by Eidos Interactive.
Initially founded in the United Kingdom before establishing its North American publishing arm, the company built its late-era portfolio by securing high-profile intellectual properties and international sporting licenses. Within the
Mega Man franchise, the publisher collaborated with Capcom to produce the 1995 Sega Game Gear version of
Mega Man, a distinct, Western-developed adaptation of the classic Japanese action-platformer series.
The company's sports lineup was anchored heavily by major global tournaments. Following their work on
World Cup USA 94, they secured the official license for the 1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games. This partnership birthed the
Olympic Soccer franchise, delivering pioneering 3D sports simulation to fifth-generation consoles. During this transition to 3D hardware, the publisher also targeted the action market with the comic-book adaptation
Incredible Hulk and the tank-combat simulator
Shellshock. The latter received a prominent North American release, including the highly collectible
Shellshock [Long Box] edition for the Sony PlayStation. These releases marked the final creative output of the brand before its integration into Eidos.
