The Adventures of Lolo series consists of puzzle games released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) between 1989 and 1992, including Adventures of Lolo, Adventures of Lolo 2, and Adventures of Lolo 3. Players control Lolo, a blue spherical character, navigating grid-based rooms to collect hearts and open a treasure chest to progress. The series is a localization and continuation of HAL Laboratory's Japanese Eggerland franchise.
The narrative of the franchise centers on Lolo's quest to rescue his counterpart, Lala, from the antagonist King Egger. While the initial Western release of
Adventures of Lolo (1989) compiled level designs from earlier Japanese titles, its sequels introduced original layouts and refined mechanics. In
Adventures of Lolo 2 (1990)—released in Japan as
Adventures of Lolo II (1990) and in Europe as
Adventures of Lolo 2 (1991)—players faced advanced hazards like the instant-kill gaze of Medusa and Don Medusa. The series expanded further with regional releases of
Adventures of Lolo (1990) and
Adventures of Lolo (1991).
The final home console entry,
Adventures of Lolo 3 (1991), which reached Europe as
Adventures of Lolo 3 (1992), expanded the formula by introducing an overworld map, destructible bridges, boss battles, and the ability to play as Lala. Throughout these titles, players utilize strategic mechanics such as pushing Emerald Frames to block enemy sightlines and shooting enemies with Magic Shots to temporarily transform them into eggs, which can be used as rafts or shields. The legacy of the series persists through HAL Laboratory's flagship franchise, where Lolo and Lala reappear as the recurring boss characters Lololo and Lalala in the
Kirby series.
