About

Atelier Sophie is a role-playing video game series developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo. It began with the 2015 release of Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book (released internationally in 2016) on platforms including PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. The series follows the alchemist Sophie Neuenmuller and serves as the first entry in the Mysterious sub-trilogy of the broader Atelier franchise.

The franchise expanded significantly following the initial Japanese launch of Atelier Sophie: Fushigi na Hon no Renkin Jutsushi [Premium Box] in 2015, which arrived in Western markets in 2016 as Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book. These releases, which included various physical Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book [Limited Edition] packages, introduced a grid-based alchemy synthesis system where players arrange ingredients on a panel to maximize item quality.

The narrative focuses on Sophie's quest to restore the memories of Plachta, a sentient book who eventually receives a physical doll body. Unlike prior entries in the broader Atelier franchise, this game removed strict calendar time limits, allowing for more relaxed exploration and gathering.

The game's success led to a direct sequel, Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream, in 2022. Additionally, an enhanced version titled Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book DX was released in 2021 for modern platforms, introducing new story episodes, cauldrons, and gameplay features.
