The Brain Age series, also known as Brain Training in PAL regions, is a franchise of puzzle games designed to stimulate brain activity through daily exercises. The series includes the original Brain Age (2005/2006) and its sequel Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day! (2007), which feature various mathematical, memory, and reading challenges overseen by a digital representation of Dr. Ryuta Kawashima.
Developed to leverage the unique hardware features of the Nintendo DS, the series utilized the console's touchscreen, stylus, and microphone, requiring players to hold the system sideways like a book. The franchise debuted with
Brain Age (2005), also released as
Brain Training (2005) in PAL regions. To promote the title, Nintendo distributed special promotional versions, including
Brain Age [Not For Resale] (2006) and
Brain Age [Gift From Nintendo - GDC:06] (2006), alongside the standard North American release of
Brain Age (2006).
The massive commercial success of the initial game led to the development of
Brain Age 2: More Training In Minutes A Day! (2004) and
More Brain Training (2005), culminating in the North American release of
Brain Age 2 (2007).
