About

The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of choice-driven horror games that began with the release of Man of Medan in 2019, followed by Little Hope in 2020. Each installment is a standalone story featuring branching narratives where player decisions directly impact the survival of the cast. The first two entries were also compiled together in the Dark Pictures Anthology: Volume 1 Limited Edition in 2020.
Developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, this interactive drama series draws heavy inspiration from specific horror subgenres and real-world legends. For instance, Man of Medan adapts the maritime mystery of the SS Ourang Medan, while Little Hope incorporates elements of the 17th-century Andover and Salem witch trials.
To deliver these cinematic experiences, the developer utilized motion capture technology and cast established Hollywood talent, including Shawn Ashmore in Man of Medan and Will Poulter in Little Hope. A central, recurring figure across these releases is the Curator, an enigmatic narrator voiced by Pip Torrens who observes the players' progress from a mysterious library.
In terms of gameplay, both Man of Medan and Little Hope feature cooperative multiplayer modes, allowing players to experience the narrative together online or locally. The physical compilation Volume 1 [Limited Edition] packaged these initial experiences together alongside collectible bonuses, cementing the franchise's early footprint in the survival horror genre.
