The God Eater series began with the release of God Eater in 2010. The franchise expanded with major releases and updated editions including God Eater 2, God Eater 2: Rage Burst, and God Eater 3. In these games, players control elite warriors who use transforming weapons called God Arcs to battle powerful creatures known as Aragami.
Developed by Shift and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, this science-fantasy franchise was conceived as a cooperative multiplayer experience. The original
God Eater (2010) launched on the PlayStation Portable, establishing the series' signature fast-paced combat and post-apocalyptic aesthetic. Its success led to
God Eater 2 (2013), which introduced the "Blood Arts" customization system. An enhanced version,
God Eater 2: Rage Burst (2015), made its debut on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, followed by a western localization of
God Eater 2: Rage Burst (2016) that expanded the player base to personal computers.
The mainline progression concluded with
God Eater 3 (2019), which was developed by Marvelous First Studio and introduced dual-weapon mechanics. This entry saw multiple physical distributions, including the specialized
God Eater 3 [Collector's Edition] (2013) packaging, alongside the standard worldwide release of
God Eater 3 (2019) on modern consoles. Beyond interactive media, the intellectual property has generated a broader media franchise, including a 2015 anime television series produced by Ufotable, multiple manga adaptations, and light novels, cementing its legacy within the hunting action subgenre.
