About

Guilty Gear Xrd is a sub-series of fighting games within the larger Guilty Gear franchise, developed by Arc System Works. The series debuted with Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign in 2014 and was followed by Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator in 2016. It is highly regarded for transitioning the franchise from traditional 2D sprites to 3D models styled to look like hand-drawn anime.
Powered by Unreal Engine 3, this narrative arc continues the franchise's complex sci-fi lore, focusing on the threat of the Conclave and the mysterious Valentine entities. Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign (2014) introduced key gameplay innovations, including an expanded "Roman Cancel" mechanic that slows down time, and the "Danger Time" state. Alongside the standard release, the Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign [Limited Edition] (2014) offered collectors physical bonuses such as a specialized fight pad, a character profile book, and the series' signature heavy metal soundtrack.
The saga expanded with Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator (2016), which refined the combat balance, added a virtual 3D lobby system, and introduced a simplified "Stylish" control scheme for beginners. Its premium release, Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator [Limited Box] (2016), featured exclusive visual art books and soundtrack compilations. These releases solidified the sub-series' competitive legacy in major fighting game tournaments like EVO, praised for maintaining frame-perfect 2D fighting precision within a fully 3D-rendered environment.
